Scotney Castle pairs a romantic 14th-century moated castle ruin with a later mansion house on the hill above it, on a National Trust estate near Lamberhurst. Explore the house and the terraced garden that drops down to the old castle, then head out across 780 acres of parkland and Wealden woodland. Allow half a day, or longer with an estate walk.

An elf-led Christmas quest in the woodland at Bewl Water, ending in a private Santa visit personalised with each child's name, age and interests. The quest itself runs for just under two hours, and families are advised to allow around three hours including the food court and play area. Most of the route is under cover, but some sections are outdoors and not all are heated.
